Rainbow Contact Paper Activity

Contact paper creations make for some of the best activities! The activity is as simple or elaborate as you make it. The rainbow contact paper activity can be tailored to your little one’s developmental abilities, making it fun for younger and older children alike. Younger toddlers are typically more interested in placing and removing items on the contact paper and older kiddos tend to be more interested in a specific theme or decorative pattern. Any picture can be drawn on the contact paper, it does not have to be a rainbow. I am not a great artist, so I stick to simple pictures that I know my little one will recognize and love!

Items needed for this activity:

Contact paper

Washable markers

Pom poms

Feathers

Cotton swabs

Masking tape

Any decorative items you have that stick will work great for the rainbow contact paper activity. Pieces of tissue paper make for a beautiful design as well. Use home-made confetti, cotton balls, googly eyes, straws, felt pieces, gems, items from nature, or whatever you can find. Anything stickable will provide so much entertainment.

Steps:

Cut off a large piece of contact paper that forms a perfect square.

Draw and color your picture, rainbow or whatever you choose, on the clear side of the contact paper. You can also draw and color your picture on a piece of paper to place behind the contact paper as well. I like drawing directly on the contact paper for the aesthetic, but both ways work!

Remove the back of the contact paper and position it on a wall or door, sticky side facing you.

Tape the contact paper to the a wall or table.

If your little one is familiar with contact paper, then this rainbow contact paper activity should be pretty simple to figure out. If they need some guidance, show them how to place the provided items on the picture as well as how to remove the items.

Once they get the hang of it, they will love it! I draw a different picture for my little one every time we do this activity. I also provide some different materials to stick on the picture each time. As you know, variety is the spice of life!
