Play-Doh Eggs

Play-Doh Eggs

Play-Doh is one of those toddler toys that really does not need a special activity because it is entertaining enough. However, I am going to share an activity that my toddler absolutely loves: making Play-Doh eggs. Hopefully your little one does as well!

Items needed for this activity:

A few different colors of Play-Doh

Toddler knife

Mini dinosaurs

Any small, easily washable figurine or toy will work instead of dino erasers. We switch it up often. I usually sit my daughter at her highchair for this activity because I like her being stationary while using a toddler knife and the tray is easy to clean.

If you want to make your own Play-Doh, click here for a good recipe. If you make your own, involve your toddler in the process!

Steps:

Roll the Play-Doh around the figurines to make an egg shape. Do this when your toddler is not paying attention, so they are surprised when they see what is inside! Make about 6 eggs.

Roll some smaller balls of Play-Doh. Roll some cylinders. Flatten a large piece of Play-Doh on the surface. Have your toddler roll some shapes as well.

Demonstrate how to make a few, small cuts using the toddler knife in each type of Play-Doh.

Allow your toddler to take over!

Discuss the colors and shapes of the Play-Doh. Talk about what you find in the eggs. Make sure you are taking every chance during the activity to introduce new terminology, such as fingerprint, squeeze, squish, roll, stretch, cut, etc.

Roll new shapes to replace each shape that has been destroyed. Switch up the shapes and keep it interesting. Make some letters, numbers or monsters!

Play as long as your child is interested! Typically, my daughter will enjoy this activity for around half an hour but sometimes she is engaged for up to an hour!
